Imphal, September 07 2011:
Taking exception to publication of a news story on anti-AFSPA campainer Irom Sharmila's private life, Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) has urged The Telegraph daily to carry news reports which are in favour of rooting out the draconian Act only in future.
The news item that revealed Sharmila's romantic life, which the national daily carried as its front page story in its September 5 Guwahati edition, had disappointed the supporters of the marathon hunger striker, HERICOUN added.
Expressing hope that the Editor of The Telegraph would apologise the people of the State in this regard, the civil society body also urged the mainstream national media to take active part in the ongoing campaign against the controversial Act.
