With a plea to relax for sometimes to the demand of some underground outfits considering the woe currently facing by them, the employees of Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) today staged sit-in protest in front of its office opposite to Kangla moat.
Some underground outfits are pressing to pay 2% of their monthly salaries, according to the employees.
Taking part in the sit-in protest,an employee of the council while revealing that IMC is an autonomous body and for payment of salaries of the employees, government is granting Rs.19 lakhs per month.
But, he went on to say, the council is spending an estimated amount of Rs 40 lakhs in paying salaries of its employees and honourarium of the councilors of the elected body governing the council.
Apart from this, the income of the IMC has been reduced remarkably as it to pay various kinds of taxes with VAT (Value Added Tax), he said.
Owing to this prevailing condition, the employees are not getting salaries for the last 22 years.
So, he appealed the underground groups to relax their demand for the time being.
The sit-in protest commenced from around 10 am and went on till 3 pm.
