Decrying physical assaults on drivers by unidentified persons in connection with monetary demands, Tata Sumo drivers operating along Imphal-Moreh route have ceased transport service along the route from today.
According to Tata Sumo drivers, some of their colleagues were preparing to leave Moreh for Imphal last morning when some unidentified persons affronted them at Moreh Sumo parking (Veterinary complex).
The unidentified persons asked the drivers to take down the loaded goods.
Soon, they started beating up the drivers.
After six drivers were thrashed in the morning, the unidentified persons came back in the afternoon and assaulted another eight drivers.
The victimised drivers said that they would not take steering until the assailants identify their group and explain their hostile act.
With Tata Sumo service from Imphal to Moreh ceased, vehicles on the Moreh leg of their journey have returned to Imphal today.
The victims have also lodged an appeal to the Manipur Drivers' Welfare Association to look into the unprovoked assault.
The Association has also condemned the assault.
The Moreh Tata Sumo (Old and New) have also joined the outcry.
