The State Government is set to switch to village-wise distribution of PDS items from the existing polling station-wise distri-bution from the next fiscal year.
It may be mentioned that the new model had been recommended by Justice Wadhawa Commission constituted under the directive of the Supreme Court.
District Supply Officers and other officials concerned have started conducting field surveys in this regard.
As part of the said process, an official team led by District Supply Officer of Thoubal, L Somorendro today conducted surveys at different localities of Wangjing Tentha Assembly Constituency of Thoubal district.
The official team also tried to find out whether PDS items are provided regularly to the targeted beneficiaries including BPL families.
PDS SK oil for the month of February, which could not be distributed in time due to late submission of utilisation certificate was also distributed to beneficiaries of 34/8 Mairenkhun, 34/26 Sapam and 34/33 Langathel during today's survey.
SK Oil Dealing Assistant of the district, Th Ingocha and CAF&PD official Th Modhuchandra were also part of the official team.
The allotted quantity of SK oil for the total 37 Polling Stations of the Constituency is 33,347 litres.
SK oil is being provided to the people of the Constituency at Rs 19 per litre which is inclusive of transportation charge.
District Supply Officer L Somorendro told reporters that similar surveys would be conducted at other Assembly Constituencies of the district as well.
He added that following Wadhwa Committee recommendation, Polling Station-wise distribution of PDS items would change to village-wise distribution from the next fiscal year commencing April this year.
The District Supply Officer expressed hope that the new model would bring convenience to both people and Government.
L Somorendro also said that he is pleased on learning that people of Wangjing tentha AC are getting PDS items regularly.
