Governor Dr SS Sidhu has donated a sum of Rs 50,000 to the executive committee of Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) for developing the Adventure Leadership Park (ALP) at Lamdan.
The donation amount was handed over to MMTA executive committee during a simple function held at Raj Bhavan today.
MMTA president N Ibungochoubi and convenor of North Eastern States Adventure Leadership Parks programme of the Himalayan Environment Trust received the amount on behalf of MMTA.
Commissioner of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Ch Biren Singh and Secretary to the Governor RK Nimai, who is also the chairman and member secretary of Development Committee of ALP were also present at the occasion.
Addressing the gathering Dr Sidhu said that the proposed Adventure Leadership Park at Lamdan would be the first of its kind in the country under the Himalayan Environment Trust.
''There is also a vision to initiate a National Adventure Institute in the line of National Sports Academy', he said.
The Adventure Leadership Park being implemented by MMTA is an outcome of a memorandum of understanding signed between Himalayan Environment Trust and MMTA in March this year at New Delhi.
A Development Committee comprising of Commissioner (YAS), Government of Manipur as chairman, Secretary to the Governor, Director YAS, MMTA president and Woman Mountaineer and Padmashree G Anita Devi as members was constituted for raising fund for the Park.
To be run 'no profit no loss' basis by the MMTA, the Adventure Leadership Park at Lamdan will be inaugurated by Governor Dr SS Sidhu on October 26 this year.
The Governor advised the MMTA executive committee to begin the construction of the ALP immediately with the amount sanctioned and assured that the flow of fund for the purpose would come in from time to time.
As a beginning, the ALP would have elements of adventure for the children where the visitors would experience outdoor activities in the form adventure to develop self-discipline, leadership and camaraderie.
Jogging Track, Challenge Course, Rock/Boulder, Zorb-Ball, Open Amphitheatre, Mountain Biking, Parasailing, Water Sports, Swing Burma Bridge, Spider Web, Tarzan Swing, Valley Crossing, Commando Slithering, Trampoline Catapult, etc are some of the features of the proposed ALP.
The special programme for school children for the ALP will be co-ordinated by MMTA from its head office at Minuthong.
There would also be a special package for families who would stay overnight at ALP.
