Imphal, March 31 2009:
Laishram Naba, father of weightlifter L Monika said that legal actions will be initiated against the Press Trust of India (PTI) for quoting and publishing stories in connection with the dope test of her daughter at a time when a case is pending at Delhi High Court.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Naba said that starting from the time of Beijing Olympics last year when Monika was denied participation in the summer Olympics games on the allegation that she tested positive in dope test, urine samples of Monika were taken four times for test between June 6 and July 28 last year.
These were sent to Tokyo for B-Sample tests but no official reports have been published by the relevant authority.
Asking on what authentic source the PTI based its news story that the B-Sample test of Monika has been found positive, Naba said that hearing of the pending case at Delhi High Court is scheduled on April 2 .
Report of the B-Sample test at Tokyo may be produced during the hearing in case the authority published the same.
However, till date the report has not been provided by the authority, Naba said while questioning authenticity of the PTI's news story.
In this connection, Monika's lawyer has made all preparations to file a suit against PTI.
On the other, such act of PTI's seems to have been motivated by an ulterior motive to suppress promising players of Manipur, said the weightlifter's father.
