Imphal, March 30 2009:
Former Union Minister and candidate of the MPP in the upcoming Lok Sabha election from the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency Thounaojam Chaoba has categorically stated that if Manipur is to be saved from further day to day degradation it can be possible only during election time by the collective will of the people.
So voters should exercise their franchise judiciously.
Addressing a press conference at the office of MPP here today, Chaoba observed that with Manipur going downhill on the wrong path day by day the State is today passing through a very critical stage.
Prices of essential commodities being brought in from outside have been sky-rocketed as a result of deplorable road and transport facilities and the people have been left high and dry with imposition of curfew in Greater Imphal area for more than one month one now.
Over and above the ever deteriorating law and order, corruption has been on the rise, Chaoba said, adding that the State could be saved from all these problems only during election time by the public exercise their franchise judiciously.
Maintaining that the upcoming 15th Lok Sabha election is going to be a great battle field for both the National and the regional parties, Chaoba contended that he has been recommended as the candidate of MPP in consideration of the urgency to choose and field only those who could succeed in the election.
He also pointed out that the CPI candidate for the Inner seat Dr Nara cannot cast his vote for the Inner seat by virtue of belonging to the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency and in case of his election people could expect nothing from him as he from the Outer Parliamentary Constituency.
