Altogether 21 personnel of the Manipur Police will be awarded Police Medal for Gallantry on the occasion of the Republic Day tomorrow, informed a press release issued by Director General of Police Y Joykumar Singh.
On the other hand, it is reported that the Chief Minister will receive the salute of March Past contingents in tomorrow's Republic Day parade in the State capital in place of the Governor as the latter is engaged in Shillong.
The awardees for Police Medal for Gallantry include Inspector of Police, Imphal West Thokchom Krishnatombi (4th BAR to PMG), SI Imphal West Ahongshangbam Tomba (BAR to PMG), SI Imphal West Pebam John, AC 1st MR Moirangthem Mubi, SI Imphal West Chingtham Anandkumar, SI Imphal West Thokchom Jayanta, SI Imphal West Muipuinamei James Thangal, SI Imphal West Sougrakpam Chandrakumar, Jemadar (attached to Imphal East commando) K Paukhenthang, ASI Imphal West Ningthoujam Sanajaoba and ASI Imphal East O Premananda.
Imphal West Constables Thounaojam Herojit, Khundrakpam Birachandra, Maku Thamba Maring, Tongbram Shyam, Oinam Keshor, Sanasam Kumar, Oinam Meghachandra, Yuno Thekho, Ningthoujam Sanaton and Rifleman (attached to Imphal East commando) S Shyamo.
IPS Shahid Ahmad has been selected for the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
Further, SP Bishnupur district Konsam Jayanta and Inspector (Legal) Police Hqs Adhikarimayum Ghanashyam have also been selected for the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Compared to the previous years, Manipur Police has received the highest number of gallantry medals this year.
Of all the State Police of the country, only Andhra Pradesh with two President's Police Medal and 23 Police Medal for Gallantry has received more medals than Manipur Police, added the DGP.
