Imphal, November 23 2011:
With 102 stalls offering an array of 510 different mouth watering dishes ranging from Italian to Chinese and from Thai to our own spicy Tharoi Thongba, Manipur Sangai Festival 2011 has become an irresistible stop for foodies and festival revellers.
On the third day of the festival that kick started on November 21, the food stalls remained the most crowded place in the festival that has attracted more than 10 thousand visitors so far.
Unlike past festivals, the Innovative Youth Society (IYS), the co-ordinating group of the food stalls, invited chefs for Italian and Afghani dishes to tickle the palates of the visitors.
Apart from these two food stalls, Thai and Chinese food stalls are the other International attractions of this year's festival.
Talking to The Sangai Express, IYS Managing Director Bikramjit Chongtham said, International food stalls faced inconvenience as they could not bring in their equipment with them due to the ongoing economic blockade.
However, they have sent their chefs to take part in the festival, he added.
Bikramjit said that festival organisers show less interest in promoting indigenous food items during the 10-day festival.
He expressed his desire to encourage the State food producers and cooks in order to enhance promotion of indigenous dishes to the tourists coming from outside the State.
Like in past festivals, scrummy Nambol bora, Kakching chakhao dishes, and mouth watering Meitei Pangal and Kabui food items are the main indigenous attractions at the food corner.
