Taking strong exception to the reported assault on physically challenged L Daikho by personnel of 6th MR, the Senapati village and the Senapati District Physically Handicapped Association has threatened various forms of agitation demanding fitting action against the seven MR personnel involved in the assault.
L Daikho (20) s/o late Loli was coming out to Senapati market along with his friends��S Victor and L Stibeson before personnel of 6th MR posted at Senapati district Hqs bashed him up accusing of Daikho being involved in a case of brawl at about 7 pm of May 13 .
As Victor and Stibeson protested saying that Daikho was a disabled man, the MR men slapped them too.
After letting off Victor and Stibeson, the MR men continued thrashing Daikho using cane and rifle-butts.
He was let off only after repeated clarification that he was not involved in any brawl, Daikho told media persons today.
Even though Daikho could not work properly and limped, he suffered bad bruises on the back, hands and stomach.
Taking part in the press meet, president of Senapati District Physically Handicapped Association Johnson Kaikho condemned the assault as most brutal.
Quoting Persons With Disabilities Act 1995 that any one making false allegations, assaulting or making false reports against a disabled person may be fined Rs 20,000 and jailed for two years, Johnson demanded befitting punishment to the MR personnel under the same Act.
Decrying the act of assaulting a disabled person by armed security personnel, Senapati village chief NG Kho appealed to all security forces to stop alleged harassment of people by security personnel at Senapati Keithel.
All Tribal Disabled Union Manipur also urged upon the Government to punish the guilty security personnel at the earliest.
