Imphal, January 21 2010: Extending support to the campaign of the Sharmila Kanba Lup, general secretary of CPI (Marxist-Leninist) KN Ramchandra has stated that the life of Irom Sharmila must be saved.

Expressing solidarity to the cause of Sharmila, Ramchandra interacted with activists of the Sharmila Kanba Lup at JNIMS complex, Porompat where they have been staging a relay hunger strike demanding repeal of the draconian Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act and to save the life of Sharmila.

He exhorted that a strong campaign be launched jointly to abolish AFSPA.

Notably, the Sharmila Kanba Lup, in solidarity with Sharmila's campaign launched since November 2000, started a relay hunger strike from December 10, 2008 .

So far the relay hunger strike has completed 407 days.
