Imphal, January 14:
Two volunteers of the agitating All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) were physically assaulted by personnel of the Indian Reserved Batallion (IRB) in Chandel district yesterday, reports NNN.
ATSUM leaders informed NNN today that SK Joseph Lamkang and S Morhing Monsang were beaten up by personnel of the IRB posted at Moreh.
The incident occurred near a village called Lamkang Khunou.
The student leaders also said that the victims were beaten up so brutally that they had to be hospitalised at Catholic Medical Centre, Koirengei.
The tribal student leaders then urged that even empty trucks should not ply along the National Highways so long as the economic blockade is in force .
They further stated that the relaxation period got over on January 12 and added that it was paying heed due to the fervent appeals made by the drivers organisations with regard to the Drivers' Day.
ATSUM leaders also urged the people not to invite problems by defying their blockade call.
