Imphal, October 30 2011:
The Apunba Lup has lifted the ban it imposed on Telegraph daily following an understanding between Apunba Lup leaders and representatives of the Telegraph daily.
At a meeting facilitated by the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), Apunba Lup leaders and Telegraph regional manager Pankaj Thakur held a meeting.
During the meeting Pankaj Thakur clarified that the news story published in the Telegraph about Irom Sharmila on September 5 had no malicious intention nor was it driven by any biased
stand.
The story was simply published as a news matter.
"Had the news story hurt the sentiments of Manipuri people or any individual, we regret it", said Pankaj Thakur on behalf of the Telegraph.
He also assured the Apunba Lup leaders that special care would be taken to ensure no correspondent or reporter gathers news stories from Imphal and publish it without informing the Imphal correspondent of the daily paper.
Representing the Telegraph, Pankaj Thakur apologised to the people of Manipur through the Apunba Lup for the controversial news story on Sharmila.
A press release issued by the Apunba Lup informed that it has decided to lift the ban and allow circulation of Telegraph in Manipur.
