Imphal, May 27 2011:
Reacting strongly to the all-party meeting decision of Manipur taken on May 26 to oppose the launch of Naga People's Front (NPF) in Manipur, the United Naga Council (UNC) said today it seriously views the decision saying it negates the Naga tradition which "is totally against the spirit of the peace overtures which are taking place in the region and elsewhere" .
The UNC reminded that it had severed all political ties with the Government of Manipur since July 1, 2010."Hence, the government of Manipur's coercive interference in the Naga areas in Manipur pertaining to opposing of launching ceremony of the NPF Manipur State unit scheduled on May 28, 2011 at Tahamzam (Senapati) headquarters is an attitude of an aggressor," asserted the UNC.
It then said that the said launching ceremony has no connection with the "tripartite talks" scheduled on May 30."The UNC welcomes the visit of any Naga leaders in Nagalim," said the UNC press communique.
The UNC said imposition of any government of Manipur decision in the hill areas 'devoid of the endorsement of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC), Manipur is totally un-constitutional and anti-tribals'.
"Therefore, the UNC advises the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) led government of Manipur to avoid confrontationist and communal stand which negates the very word stability," said the UNC.
