Protection Of Loktak Lake Call Rends The Air Onus of promoting Loktak stressed

With the theme to protect Loktak, the 17th Loktak Day was celebrated today at Komlakhong Ereima Lampak.
The programme was jointly organised by Loktak Day Celebration Committee and Komlakhong Youth Development Association.
The celebration programme was graced by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar; Parliamentary Secretary of YAS and Tourism, M Prithiviraj; member of Uchiwa Zilla Parishad, Oinam (O) Barni; Pradhan of Laphupat Komlakhong GP, Ashem (O) Sandhyarani and Telecom official, H Khojen as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Giving the keynote address, secretary of Loktak Day Celebration Committee said that the Loktak Day has been observed since 1991 with the attempt to save the deteriorating conditions of Loktak Lake, the largest fresh water lake in the North East which is inextricably linked with the culture of the people.
The secretary said the committee is committed to spreading the message and awareness among the younger generation to preserve the exquisiteness of Loktak lake for posterity.
Speaking at the occasion, Works Minister Dr Ratankumar said that it is the bounden duty of all to preserve and protect Loktak Lake and its environment.
He said that keeping the ecological balance intact would make the celebration of the day more meaningful.
Parliamentary Secretary, M Prithiviraj said the efforts of Government alone could not help in preserving Loktak lake.
But it can be preserved with the cooperation of the surrounding people, he said while urging the people not to resort to rampant obliteration of diverse faunas in and around Loktak lake.
Various cultural troupes have also presented cultural dances during the function.
