Laying the foundation stone of the building of Manipur Sahitya Parishad at Sangaipat in Imphal East today, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has described the Sahitya Parishad as the store house of literature of the State.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, the Chief Minister noted that the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad has always played an important role in bringing about peace and development in the State and the Parishad has also been contributing its mite not only in the development of Manipuri language and the cultural activities of other communities in the State but also in neighbouring States.
Assuring that every possible assistance would be extended from the side of the Government in ensuring completion of the building of the Parishad at the earliest possible, the Chief Minister expressed desire that the ground floor and the wall of the building should be completed before the onset of the next rainy season.
Chairman of State Planning Board E Kunjeshore, who attended the function as one of the guests of honour, said that Manipuri Sahitya Parishad is an important organisation that has been working for the development of Manipuri literature.
It has been the long cherished dream of the people that the Parishad should have a building of its own and along with completion of the building, the dream would be realised, he added.
Chairman of PDA Dr Kh Loken Singh, who was also the guest of honour of the function, observed that all those who are working for the development of Manipur language and literature would be remembered by the people in days to come.
He also announced that a sum of Rs 1 lakh from his Local Area Development Fund would be donated towards construction of the building of the Parishad.
The president of the Sahitya Parishad B Jayentakumar Sharma presided over the function.
The building of the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad is being constructed over an area of point 20 acres.
