Imphal, November 09 2011:
Taking strong exception to the act of detaining MPP vice-president Y Mangi under National Security Act on the charge of being found in the company of an armed person, MPP has alleged that this was a politically motivated move of the Government.
Notably, Y Mangi was preparing to contest the forthcoming 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections in Heingnang AC .
In connection with the arrest of Y Mangi under NSA, an emergency meeting of MPP office bearers and advisory committee was held today.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang observed that the arrest of Y Mangi under NSA on the charge of travelling with an armed person in a vehicle when the Assembly elections are just two/three months away was a politically motivated move of the Government.

Saying that there were several cases in which many people were held with weapons, Dr Nimaichand asserted that NSA was never invoked in such cases.
Some years back, a large number of arms and ammunition were seized from the Babupara quarters of Ministers and MLAs but no one was punished or detained under NSA, the MPP president asserted.
The MPP has started investigation to find out whether detention of vice-president Y Mangi is justified or not.
The MPP has also been working to revoke the NSA invoked against Mangi, he informed.
On being enquired whether Mangi would be allowed to contest the forthcoming elections under MPP ticket while still languishing in prison, Dr Nimaichand said that the party has not yet considered the matter.
