Imphal, October 09:
The Thoubal District bandh called since last midnight in pursuance of the demand for unconditional release of AMMOCOC's chief auditor Hussein Ahamed from police custody has been called off from 1 pm today in view of the raising day of PREPAK.
The proposed general strike at Bishnupur district has also been postponed.
Announcing this while talking to mediapersons at the Babupara office of the organisation this afternoon, spokesman Wahidur Rahaman, however, informed that there would be no change in the schedule of the Imphal East and West District bandh.
Expressing regret over the incident of placing a bomb at the office of AMMOCOC at Babupara, the spokesman said it is an attempt to suppress the agitation being launched by the Organisation in connection with illegal detention of its chief auditor in the police custody.
Before the Thoubal District bandh was called off, the effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Speaker Maniruddin Shaikh, Minister Allaudin Khan and MLA Abdul Salam were reportedly consigned to flame by bandh supporters at Thoubal Moijing area today.
Meanwhile, asserting that the continued imprisonment of AMMOCOC chief auditor Ahmad Hussain after he was arrested by a team of commandos on the intervening night of September 7 and 8 is a gross injustice, the AMMOCOC Irong Chesaba unit has demanded immediate release of Hussain without any condition.
In a statement, the Unit further pledged full support to any initiative propose and launch by the AMMOCOC to affect the release of Hussain.
In the same vein, Phouden Youth Club also assured support to AMMOCOC in its endeavour to affect the release of Ahmad Hussain.
Likewise, the Anti-Social Prevention Action Committee (ASPAC) Lilong, Phoubakchao Youth Islamic Action Association and Rural Organisation for Social Elevation (ROSE), etc have also assured to extend all possible support to the stir planned by AMMOCOC in pursuit of the release of its chief auditor Ahmad Hussain without any condition.
