Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) will kick start a series of inspection drive in the schools of the four valley districts of the State from July 12 .
It would check whether the schools are teaching Meetei script book, Lamjing Lairik to the students of Class VII to X, said MEELAL President M Naodalenkhomba while speaking to reporters in a press conference held at its office today.
He said that the organisation convened its Central Committee meeting on June 20 and took various resolutions to popularise Meetei script in the State.
Naodalenkhomba said that the meeting decided to conduct inspection drive from June 12 and commencement of inscribing Meetei script in advertisement hoardings, vehicle number plates, backdrops and banners.
He added that the meeting also resolved to press the Government to amend Manipur Official Language Act at the earliest by convening a meeting of Meetei Mayek Expert Committee headed by Education Minister L Jayantakumar.
The President informed the reporters that the meeting of MEELAL Central Committee also decided to urge the Government to run a certificate course of Meetei script in SCERT.
It also resolved to press to institute a separate cell for Meetei script in Department of Education (S) and check if Meetei script is properly taught to the students of Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas.
Saying that the meeting also decided to check whether the Film Forum Manipur has changed the agreed terms into action Naodalenkhomba said that MEELAL would also check if Meetei script is inscribed in the prospectus of various institutes.
Maintaining that MEELAL would in no way negotiate with the violators of its terms, the President also urged the general public to extend co-operation in their endeavour.
