Warning the State and Central Governments against taking any decision to barter away 3.7 sq kms of land of Choro Khunou in Ukhrul district with Myanmar in lieu of a similar of area of land from the neighbouring country at Moreh, the Tangkhul Naga Long, today categorically stated that the Tangkhuls will protect every inch of their ancestral land with their lives.
In a statement issued to the press, the apex body of the Tangkhul community today said that its leaders met Chief Minister O Ibobi and apprised him of the apprehensions felt over the move of the Central and State Governments and made their stand clear against any designs to barter away their land with Myanmar.
A memorandum to this effect was also submitted to the Chief Minister.
The statement further said that Tangkhul leaders led by the president of TNL met Works Minister Th Debendra Singh, chairman of the Cabinet sub-committee, which has been entrusted of looking into the matter, and held in-depth discussions.
Wungnaoshang Keishing, who is also a member of the sub-committee informed the delegates that the State Govt has not agreed with the proposal of the Centre, said the statement.
The CM, Th Debendra and W Keishing assured the delegates that the desire and sentiments of the people of Ukhrul will not be ignored, said the statement.
The TNL has also demanded the immediate transfer of Ukhrul DC Y Jugindro as he has failed to attend to the interest and welfare of the people, said the statement.
The TYNL also accused the officer of not implementing any Centrally sponsored schemes.
The Tangkhul body also urged the Chief minister to pay Rs 1 lakh each as ex-gratia to the family members of those killed in the bus mishap on August 23 which claimed 15 lives.
TMNL ultimatum: Cracking the whip against the sale and consumption of some fruit juice from Myanmar which does not bear the name of the company, expiry date and manufacturing date etc, the Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long has today asked all shopkeepers and vendors to destroy the goods in the district on or before September 3 as the content of the so called juice is nothing but alcohol.
In a statement, the Tangkhul body said that the drink is being used as intoxicants by the youth and others and urged all the units of the body to ensure that its sale and consumption are banned in the district.
