Imphal, August 28 2011:
The Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) has categorically rejected the claim of the Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Union and the Rongmei Council that some villages of Tamenglong district are still en-compassed by Jiribam.
An 11-member strong delegates of JDDC arrived here today for a meeting with the Chief Minister tomorrow on the demand of upgrading Jiribam to a full fledged district.
Briefing media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, JDDC convenor M Maipaksana asserted there is no case of Jiribam encompassing any village of Tamenglong.
Acting on the statements made by the Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Union and the Rongmei Naga Council, the committee made a field survey.
But no Tamenglong village was found included in Jiribam, Maipaksana said.
Saying that such false statements have confused the public, the convenor explained that all development works for Chatbung and Keiphundai villages are taken up under Tamenglong district though the two villages are included under Jiribam as per land records and in terms of police jurisdiction.
The Government ought to clarify on the misleading statements and the matter should be discussed during the ongoing Assembly session, he asserted.
Even as the Delimitation Commission of India has given its consent to grant district status to Jiribam and due order has been issued, the Government of Manipur has been keeping the matter under wraps for the last six years.
Confiding that they have big hopes about the scheduled meeting with the Chief Minister tomorrow afternoon, the convenor, nevertheless, declared that they are all prepared to take up necessary course of action in case the Government belies their hopes.
