A team of fisheries workshop participants visited fishery and piggery farms of Moirang area today.
School of Agriculture, Indira Gandhi National Open University Associate Professor Dr Vijay Kumar, who came to take part the workshop also accompanied the team.
During the visit, the team witnessed CIFA Mumbai demonstration on pen culture at Takmu fisheries stage.
It also visited Integrated Fish and Dairy cum Horticulture Farm at Tongbram Laklu and Robindro Tongbram's piggery, fishery and banana farms at Keirenphabi village.
Expressing satisfaction on the kind of works carrying out by the farm owners, Vijay Kumar while talking to The Sangai Express said that the earnest endeavour of the farm owners to develop their respective farms in a systematic way is encouraging and impressive.
Agriculture Extension Officer of KVK Utlou, A Tarajit Singh said that imparting knowledge of agriculture and allied subjects to farmers by the way of 'learning by doing' is the main purpose of KVK.
Informing that there has been a shift in the approach from farmers' training to extension works, Tarajit said that KVK has to participate in the process of agri-technology development and refinement.
Emphasis is also on employment generation to bring about equality of opportunity for socio-economically backward farmers and traditionally backward areas in the country including dry land areas, Tarajit added.
The five-day workshop that started on December 12 was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Utlou.
