A sit-in-protest was staged at Chingmeirong in Imphal today in protest against the Government notification to conduct fresh DPC without solving the pending cases of 835 teachers who were appointed in 2006, but whose services have not been regularized till date.
The sit-in-protest was organized by the JAC for 2006 Autonomous District Council Teachers Appointed Parents & Guardians, Manipur to protest against the Government notification/order vide letter No.2/32/2008-CHA Dated September 1, 2009 to conduct fresh DPC without solving the pending cases of 835 teachers, who were appointed in 2006 but who have not been issued their service books and identity cards so far, said the convener of the JAC Chungsat Khongsai.
The teachers who had been appointed through a DPC in 2006 have been working sincerely for the past few years but the Government has not responded to the demands of the teachers to regularize their service, lamented the convener of the JAC.
Retired Professor of DM College of Arts, B Gangte who is the adviser of the JAC said that the Government is not doing the right thing by announcing a fresh DPC to appoint new teachers without confirming the appointment of teachers selected in 2006. The sit-in-protest was joined by about 300 teachers, parents and guardians, and they will take up other forms of intensified agitation in all the hill districts if the DPC to select new teachers is not cancelled, said one of the protestors.
Meanwhile, the hunger strike, started on September 5 by All Manipur Hill Districts Council Teachers' Association at its head office at Sangakpham, Imphal has reached 10 days.
The Association is demanding release of pending DA and salaries, immediate implementation of NIC/MGEL and reservation of 10 pc seats for teachers of the Association for admission to BEd training course at DM College of Teachers Education, Imphal.
