Imphal, October 11 2009:
Inspite of stiff opposition from the JAC of primary teachers recruited in 2006, the fresh written test conducted today to select 3453 primary teachers under the Autonomous District Councils passed off without any hitch concerning Chandel district.
While similar situation also prevailed at all test centres, alert personnel of 5th Bn IRB foiled a suspected KNF activist from disrupting the test at a centre in Elite School of Kangpokpi sub-division.
A police source identifying the KNF suspect as Tongkholen alias Arjun Munda Haokip said the IRB personnel deployed on duty insisted on frisking the individual who tried to enter the test centre when it was about to end.
Tongkholen has been arrested when it was discovered that he was carrying a 9 mm pistol with four live rounds.
At Tamenglong district centres, where the written test also ended without any problem, volunteers of Zeliangrong Students' Union barred entry of all individuals who could not produce documentary proof of being a candidate.
Report received from Churachandpur district also suggest the test exams were held in a cordial and peaceful manner.
As the Government recently announced re-conduct of recruitment test and made also it mandatory for those 835 primary teachers who had already faced DPC held in 2005, a JAC of primary teachers who were part of the 2006 recruitment exercise was formed and opposed the Government move.
It is informed that among the candidates who showed up for the written test conducted at Chandel district headquarters today a number of them had faced the recruitment exercise held in 2006 owing to the effort and persuasion of Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO).
To ensure the written test pass off without any disturbances, chandel AC's MLA Thangkholun Haokip inspected all the seven test centres.
Similar inspections for ensuring trouble-free test were also conducted by the chandel Deputy Commissioner H Deleep and SP (Chandel) K Radhashyam.
Interacting with The Sangai Express, CNPO president Nunghlung Victor wryly commented that even if only ten, out of thousands of prospective candidates, are selected solely based on merit it would be a landmark achievement of the Government.
Stating that considering a specific assurance by the Government, ADC primary teachers from Chandel district who were among those selected through the 2006 DPC had decided to take part in the written test today, Victor also appreciated efforts of the MLA, DC, SP and CEO (Chandel) in ensuring the test ended in a peaceful manner.
deviating from the test issue, the CNPO chief also drew the attention of the MLA on the urgent need to assess whether prescribed quality control measures are being followed in the ongoing construction of the district's Mini Secretariat building.
Inspite of the observation, he however desired that the MLA make necessary intervention so that contractor/s engaged in the construction activities are paid for the works completed so far.
having entertained Victor's grievances, the MLA along with other CNPO volunteers headed for the Mini Secretariat construction site and assessed the situation.
During the brief inspection, Thangkholun Haokip noted that out of the specification for use of 16 iron bars in the DLO office block only 12 are being used besides coming across labour ers not washing sand and stone chips.
