The Coordinating Committee of Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, NH-53 has accused police commandos of committing excesses against Meira Paibis, who were taking out a torch rally in Khumbong area in the night of August 22 .
Speaking to media persons at Konthoujam today, convenor of the Lup, K Hayai, said that police snatched Meiras (torches) from the women protesters and bashed them up.
At Khumbong Bazar, police ambushed a group of women coming out for the Meira rally with tear gas shells from a close range.
One 17 year old girl sustained severe injuries on the right arm.
Injured Tongbram Seityabati was given treatment at the home of Loitongbam Shamungou at Khumbong Mayai Leikai.
But then police commandos rushed to the house and kicked at the front door which was then closed.
They also poked the tip of one rifle barrel through a hole in the wall and threatened to open the door, said Hayai.
The police team also took away a mobile phone handset and asked the people to get it from the police station.
Later, the girl who was injured in police action was treated at RIMS.
Meanwhile, Imphal West SSP L Kailun has informed that the mobile phone, taken away by the police team from the outhouse of the residence is at Patsoi police station.
Even as messages have been sent twice to come and claim the mobile phone, no one has come to claim it till today, he said.
Any responsible person or the local Pradhan may collect it, the SSP said.
Another convenor of the Coordinating Committee of Apunba Meira Paibi Lup NH-53, Th Rashileima said that they will continue with various forms of agitation in response to the call of the Apunba Lup.
She also demanded unconditional release of all those arrested since the mass movement was launched.
Meanwhile, a large number of women staged a protest demonstration at Lamsang against the Khwairamband killing of July 23 .
The protesters burnt effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi, MLA O Landhoni, DGP Y Joykumar and police commandos.
