Imphal, January 23:
Against the arrest of one Khongbantabam Sanatomba alias Langpoi (22) s/o Shamu of Taothong Apheiba Block Lamkhai by a combined team of army and police commandos from his residential gate in the night of January 19 who have gone untraced since then, a protest sitting was staged today at Taothong.
Speaking to reporters by the sideline of the protest, convenor of the Nupi Khunai Apunba Lup Lamshang Keithel K Modhubala asserted that such act of security forces to arrest bail-outs who have been appearing before law courts regularly without furnishing any reason or arrest memo is gross violations of basic human rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the country.
It is an act of trampling upon the fundamental rights of the citizens if security forces are allowed to keep mum over the whereabouts of apprehendees while torturing them for a prolonged period in their custody, she noted.
Strongly condemning the alleged act of killing a person after taking him/her into custody and also the practice of forced disappearance, Madhubala asked whether such excessive practices of the security forces can fructiy the Govt's surrenderee policy.
"We do not want to go for agitation or protest movements.
But the policies and acts of the Govt and its security forces have been only inviting people's movement", the convenor alleged.
She further urged upon the Govt find out the whereabouts of Sanatomba and to ensure that he is handed over to the police station concerned at the earliest.
Observing that the infamous AFSPA has been encouraging the security forces to indulge in all kinds of excesses, she further demanded that the military act be repealed from all over the State immediately.
