Imphal, October 11 2009:
Concerned at the deprivation of education to the students for over 50 days, as a consequence of various mode of agitation that had been plaguing the State in the aftermath of the july 23 BT Road firing, a meeting has been convened by All Manipur Students' Guardian Organisation at Iboyaima Shumang Leela shanglen on October 14 to deliberate on the issue.
Noting that the state had been besieged with various forms of agitation including imposition of curfew by the Government, enforcing bandhs and general strikes by numerous organisations followed by the class boycott call of student bodies, working president of the guardians' body N Chaoba said the time has arrived for the parents as well as senior citizens to discuss the matter and chalk out redressal steps.
Speaking to newspersons at the Organisation's office today, Chaoba observed that in case students continue to suffer from lack of academic activities the consequences would be disastrous as the present generation is certain to lose a specific stage of their career.
Pointing out to parents/guardians of the students that failure to bring about a positive change in the situation at the earliest would be harmful to the future generation, the working president urged the parents to participate at the meeting commencing from 10 am.
Meanwhile, observing that lack of timely initiative from the side of the Government to tackle problems afflicting the State is the chief factor for the manipuri people confronting numerous ills, advisor of the Organisation N Tomba expressed remorse that parents/guardians were not taken into confidence or consulted when the student bodies decided to give the class boycott call.
