The people still remember the endeavour of the people of the state in trying to liberate themselves from the then Awa rulers during the Seven Years Devastation.
The people should remember the hardship faced by the citizens during the British rule for 56 years.
The united struggle of the forefathers had liberated the land from outsiders' rule, Aheiba Angom stated.
Aheiba Angom asserted that the state has been brought under colonial rule again after summoning Maharaja Bodhachandra at Shillong by Advisor to Government of India, VP Menon and Governor of Assam Sri Prakasha and forcibly caused him to sign the Merger Agreement on September 21, 1949.It urged all concerned to join hands for united struggle to free the land from colonial rule.
The people have detested the revolutionary organisations due to un-revolutionary spirit of the armed organisations, split in numerous groups, turning gun against the people, etc.
These have caused the people to distance themselves from the outfits' activities.
The situation of the revolutionary movement needs introspection, the statement added.
Aheiba Angom noted that little change in the culture and tradition of the people was witnessed in 1697 during the rule of King Charairongba.
The tradition and religion of the people was totally lost with the coming of Shatidas Gosai and after the burning down of historical records on October 5, 1732.Till now, the indigenous culture and religion of the people had no trace.
Dwelling on the need for the preservation and revival of the culture and tradition, Aheiba Angom urged all concerned to preserve the indigenous culture.
It further observed that it is an universally accepted saying that 'language' is the mother while 'script' is the father.
It added that 'language' and 'script' are among the most important elements in the revolutionary movement which need proper preservation and promotion.
