Imphal, January 21 2010:
In the wake of several criticisms over the 'temporary' suspension of the agitation against July 23 incident by the two JACs, AMSU-MSF-KSA, and Apunba Lup, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has clarified that the agitation against the July 23 incident is not yet closed and is at a transitional stage.
A statement issued by the WCAL today elucidated that the agitating parties are only giving time for the CBI to complete the investigation after the Gauhati High Court entrusted the CBI to probe the incident.
The statement warned that the Apunba Lup would launch more intensified agitation if the CBI tries to defend and protect the individuals concerned involved in the incident, which has photographic evidence and which has also been openly known to the people.
It is undeniable that the handing over of the July 23 incident at Khwairamband Bazar to the CBI is the consequence of the people's movement.
Had the government formed by people's representatives been there for the people, it would not have caused much trouble to the people during the 4/5 months of agitation.
Rather, it would have instituted a court of inquiry or handed over the case to the CBI at the outset, the statement asserted.
In its attempt to protect the culprits involved in the killing, the government, however, landed the people to trouble for around 4/5 months in the name of countering insurgency.
The case is handed over to the CBI after knowing the futility.
The true colour of the state government's anti-democratic and anti-people characteristics has been shown to the world by the agitation.
This is another consequence of the agitation, it maintained.
The Lup stated that the handing over of the case to the CBI has given the agitation to have a deep breath.
This, particularly, paved the way for the students to continue their learning and give them the chance to sit for their exams.
The Lup believes that the temporary suspension of the agitation would give new impetus to launch more intensified agitation.
It is also equally unfortunate to note that some vested individuals have been taking advantage to cast the agitation in the wrong light.
It is very clear to the people that some organisations, claiming to work for the people's interest, have tried to decelerate the agitation when it was at its peak, it pointed out.
It further stated that a point on payment of compensation to Rabina, Sanjit and other injured victims was included in the memorandum signed by the Apunba Lup, the two JACs, and the Manipur government.
The Manipur government, the JACs concerned and the families' members of the victims are making a deal on payment of compensation.
The Lup clarifies that it has no relation with it.
