New Delhi, February 24 2009:
A CPI member in Lok Sabha today urged the Government to take immediate "political and military" measures to check the NSCN(I-M) from indulging in violence and "violating" the ceasefire in parts of Manipur.
"I seek immediate intervention by the Government to safeguard our territorial integrity," CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta said raising the matter during discussion on Nationally important issues in the House.
He alleged that the Naga insurgent outfit was indulging in "rampant violation" of the ceasefire with the Government, "setting up camps and capturing large areas of the State, causing threat to India's integrity".
Dasgupta also claimed that organisation had killed a Sub-Divisional Officer and two members of his staff recently, which had led to mass unrest in Manipur.
"The ceasefire was entered into in July 1997 when Indrajit Gupta was the Home Minister.
Since the Centre has entered into the ceasefire, it is the Government's responsibility to act politically and militarily and act against the insurgents," the CPI leader said.
