Imphal, October 19 2009:
To discuss the current impasse on education following indefinite closure of all educational institutions in some valley districts of the State, All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has convened a public meeting at Adim Jati campus on October 24 at 11 am.
Informing this in a statement, information and publicity secretary of ATSUM G Gaisingam said that ATSUM is deeply concerned over the current impasse on education following the indefinite closure of all educational institutions in some valley districts of the State.
Many appeals and initiatives to reopen the institutions by ATSUM had been met with strong opposition.
However, in the interest of the student community specially for the tribals, ATSUM would continue to work and try to create normal academic atmosphere and reopen all educational institutions apart from ensuring maintenance of normal academic calendar to have the annual examinations on time, Gaisingam said.
He also appealed to all the intellectuals and academicians, parents and guardians, tribe and community based parents and student bodies and individuals concerned to attend the meeting and share their opinions on the matter.
