Imphal, October 18:
Launching a scathing attack on the SPF Government, former State Unit BJP president MLA Meinam Bhorot has stated that the problem of deteriorating law and order, financial difficulties and lack of development besetting the State today are due to a bunch of power crazy politicians who use every unfair means during election to capture power.
Speaking at the one-day political conference organised by BJP Heingang Mandal at Luwangshangbam Pukhri Achouba Lampak today, Bhorot charged the Congress led coalition SPF Government with failure not only in completing the developmental projects within the targeted period but also not being able resolved even a single issue satisfactorily.
It is precisely on this account that people have started raising their voices of discontentment over the functioning of the Government today, he said.
Pointing out the alleged failure of the SPF Government, th MLA said although the required fund for construction of the flyover bridge at Imphal had been sanctioned by the NDA Government while it was in power at the Centre with the target of completion the project within one year, the same has not yet been able to complete even after three years.
There is also nothing to write home about the construction work of three market sheds of Ima Keithel for which the NDA Government had sanctioned the requisite fund, he added.
Speaking on the issue of AFSPA, Bhorot said it is the stand of the BJP to remove the repressive Act which gives unrestrained power to the security personnel with no provision for accountability from the State of Manipur.
However, the Congress-led Governments both at the Centre and the State have been shying away from the responsibilities of take up necessary steps to repeal the Act and fulfil the aspiration of the people who have suffered for long.
So it is high time for the people to think what would be their fate if they continue to vote for the party which does not respect their sentiment, he exhorted.
Social worker Yanglem Mangi who had contesting in the past General elections remarked that the people of Manipur have come to know the true colour of some power hungry politicians who have sworn holding axes at the foot of the Sahid Minar during the last 8th State Assembly election after they change allegiance with the ruling Congress party and leaving the affairs of the governance in total mess.
While asserting that no sign of developmental activities has been seen in Heingang Assembly Constituency, Mangi alleged that the fund released by the Centre through Panchayat and Zilla Parishads have been swindled and conversion of Old Age Pension Scheme and Self Help Group Scheme as Work Schemes has sown the seed of discontentment among the people.
Apart from taking a resolution on removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur, the conference also adopted various resolutions with regard to development and improvement of financial condition of the State.
