Imphal, December 10 2011:
BJP vice-president Dr Najma Heptulla has boasted that their candidate Indira Oinam can score a thumping victory over Chief Minister Okram Ibobi in Thoubal Assembly Constituency in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections.
Dr Najma Heptulla arrived here on a two-day visit to the State today.
Speaking to media persons at BJP State unit office, she exuded that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi would experience a crushing defeat at the hands of Indira Oinam.
Dr Najma Heptulla who was Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha earlier stated that she was eagerly awaiting the sweet moments when Indira Oinam comes out victorious over Ibobi.
Rejecting the propaganda about BJP being communal and anti-Muslim as baseless, Dr Najma asserted that her joining of BJP rather than Congress or other parties is a clear testimony of BJP not being communal or anti-Muslim.
Claiming that the BJP has been working for the betterment of minority communities including Manipuri Muslims and also to address the issues concerning women and children, she said that a large of Muslims have already joined BJP.
Noting that Manipur is famous for its handloom and handicraft products in addition to continuously churning out outstanding sportspersons, Dr Najma alleged that the development process of Manipur was frozen since the time Congress came to power in
the State.
With the road infrastructure lying in shambles and financial situation growing worse, many talented youths are unable to lead normal life, she alleged.
During the NDA regime, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee paid special attention to the NEC for development of transport infrastructure in the Northeastern States.
While stating that BJP would fight Manipur elections on the plank of education and welfare for women and children, she said NDA would certainly return to power at the Centre.
Indira Oinam who joined BJP recently together with more than 1000 of her supporters said that she has no qualms to contest the elections against Chief Minister.
Okram Ibobi was not born in Thoubal AC.
He only contested the elections from Thoubal AC.
Saying that Ibobi cannot love Thoubal more than she does, Indira said that she would work to save Thoubal and also to ensure self employment to all those who are unemployed.
The press meet was also attended by BJP general secretary Tapir Gao and BJP State unit president Sh Shantikumar.
