Imphal, November 09 2011:
"It's time for all Opposition parties of Manipur to make concerted efforts responsibly to ensure that the ruling Congress party never returns to power", stated Lok Sabha MP and former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha.
Addressing a press conference at BJP Manipur office today at the end of his two-day visit to the State, Yashwant Sinha stated that Opposition parties need to form a united front in order to topple the Congress-led Government, which according to him, has failed miserably in addressing the multi-layered woes of the people of Manipur.
In order to defeat Congress, Opposition parties not only need a united front, but they also need to work responsibly.
Informing that BJP has been consulting with other non-Congress parties to work together, Yashwant Sinha appealed to the political leaders of Manipur to join or extend moral support to the BJP's initiative.
Claiming that there are ample evidence on Chief Minister Okram Ibobi's links with UG groups of the State, the BJP MP ruled out any chance of free and fair elections when O Ibobi who allegedly has connections with UG groups remains Chief Minister of Manipur.
He further asserted that O Ibobi has no moral right to remain as Chief Minister of the State.
Stating that a workshop of BJP's Manipur Vision 2025 was held yesterday where experts and learned people deliberated on different topics, the former Union Finance Minister confided that of the numerous principal points of Manipur Vision 2025, economic development of Manipur is a long term vision of BJP.
Talking about the 100 days old economic blockade, Yashwant Sinha asserted that the protracted blockades have threatened the integrity of Manipur.
He also accused both the Union and State Governments of doing little to get the blockade lifted and ensure smooth supply essential commodities to the people of Manipur.
He observed that people have been standing in long queues to get a few litres of petrol while surgical operations have been suspended due to unavailability of medical oxygen.
Taking serious note of the Manipur crisis, BJP leaders led by Sushma Swaraj have urged the Prime Minister to get the blockade lifted and also to depute an all-party delegation to Manipur to collect first hand account of the situation prevailing in the State.
Reiterating that the Prime Minister should send an all-party delegation to Manipur ahead of the Parliamentary session which is scheduled to commence from November 23, the BJP MP further demanded that the report of the all-party delegation should be tabled in the Parliament for threadbare deliberation.
BJP would also raise the issue of Manipur in the Parliamentary session.
He further demanded the Government of India to disband the SPF Government for its abject failure to relief the suffering mass and impose President's Rule in the State.
The press meet was also attended by BJP spokesperson Prakash Javedkar, North East Zonal in-charge P Chandrasekhar Rao and BJP State unit president Shantikumar.
