As announced earlier, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup today organised protest demonstration and rallies at different parts of the State in protest of the July 23 fake encounter killings at BT Road.
While in the initial phase protest agitation were mainly concentrated in the valley areas, particularly in Imphal East and West districts, demonstrations have begun to spread to the hill areas as well.

With Ukhrul district having endured bandh call yesterday along with various forms of agitation reported from Moreh town of Chandel district, torch rallies were organised at Ichum Keirap and Sadu Chiru areas of Senapati district tonight.
Under the aegis of Ichum Keirap Area Youth Development Organisation and support of nearby villages a torch rally was taken out before assembling at the Ichum Kom ground at around 7.30 pm.

in the twin capital districts, though the situation was normal during the curfew relaxation hour from 5 am to 12 noon today, soon after re-imposition of curfew, womenfolks came out in large number to stage protest demonstration in different parts of Imphal East and West district in defiance of the curfew.
The protest demonstration were witnessed at places like Khurai Thangjam Leikai, Singjamei Bheigyabati Leikai, Wangkhei, Kongba Bazar, Chingamakha, Heirangoithong, Sagolband Sayang Khuraimakhong and Lamshang Bazar.
However, the police arrived and dispersed the demonstrators.
Along with staging a sit-in-protest by the Meira Paibis in front of the residential gate of Chungkham Sanjit at Khurai, later during the evening the protestors took out a rally upto Lamlong Bazar where an effigy of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh was burnt.
At Pourabi, Meira Paibis of the area took out a protest rally demanding the resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and punishment of the guilty police commandos.
effigies of the CM and DGP were also burnt at Kwakeithel bazar area at around 9 pm.
At Lamshang Bazar, the effigy of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh was set aflame by the demonstration.
Similarly, at Tera Loukrakpam Leikai, local Meira Paibis and youth burnt the effigies if Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and DGP Y Joykumar.
The police personnel who came to disperse the demonstrators took away the mats used for the sit-in demonstration.
According to police source, Imphal East District Police Commandos have picked up nine persons on alleged charge of attacking the police with slingshots during bandh and curfew.
Meanwhile, in view of the announcement made earlier to launch protest in front of Chief Minister's bungalow, security measures have been stepped up in and around the area since this afternoon.
