Imphal, December 11 2009: HIV/AIDS Control Committee of Sugnu area today observed the World AIDS Day today under the theme Universal Access and Human Rights at Sugnu Community Hall.

The event which is the first of its kind held in Sugnu area, president of the Lamkou Women Union, Olice Shilsi and chairperson of the Sugnu Nagar Gram Panchayat, M Ramcharan attended as chief guest and president of the function.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said, some of the people infected by HIV/AIDs unknowing.

Persons living with HIV should not be ill-treated.

They should be allowed to live among the people as usual.

The role women in controlling and checking HIV/AIDS is great.

Without women, it will be not able to check spreading of this dreaded disease, she observed.

During the programme, individuals living with HIV expressed their grievances facing by them while availing the ART owing to having no ART Centre in the area.

Most of the people living with HIV in the area are from the poor families.

They faced outmost difficulties in buying medicines.
