Modern song fest for veteran singers held

Imphal, November 23 2011:
As part of the concluding function of the one year long Platinum Jubilee celebration of Manipur Sahitya Parishad, a modern song festival for male and female veteran singers was held day at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy today.
The festival organized by Manipur Sahitya Parishad in connection with Apunba Manipuri Matam Eshei Kanglup (AMMIK) was participated by 17 veteran singers of the state.
Chief Guest of the function, Vice Chancellor, MU, Prof H Nandakumar Sharma said that the Manipur Sahitya Parishad plays a major role to promote art and culture and literature in the state.
One should not forget the role taken by the Parishad for the inclusion of Manipuri language to the 8th schedule of Indian Constitution.
Because of the tireless efforts of the parishad, Calcutta University recognizes the language and is one the subject on offer by the university today.
On the first day of the concluding function, November 21, Upadhis, gold medals and cash awards were distributed to renowned person of the state.
A seminar was held on November 22.RK Shinghajit, Arambam Lokendro, RK Jhaljit, L Birendrakumar and L Joychandra spoke on the seminar as resource persons.
