In less than 24-hour of police officers meeting to intensify security in the places where schools are located, a school at Kamong village of Bishnupur district's Nambol police set on fire by miscreants this afternoon at about 12.30 pm.
The Kamong Public High School under Nambol police station of Bishnupur district was burnt down by some unknowns during the school hour at about 12.30 pm, police said.
Timely intervention of the local people to put the fire under control saved the school building from total razing.
However, furniture of the some class rooms have been damaged in the fire burnt incident, police report added.
The burning down of the school took place even as a high level meeting of the police department on late evening of Tuesday discussed the matter of series of arson attempt by miscreants since last Monday.
The high level meeting including SPs of Imphal west, east, Bishnupur and Thoubal, according to an official source, chalked out security deployment to guard schools with available state forces.
The meeting resolved to intensify patrolling of the police commandos at the four valley districts at places where schools are located.
Police stations and MR and IRB personnel were also asked to conduct patrolling and close vigilant to the schools within their jurisdictions and nearby the MR and IRB posts as per the meeting.
