A wheel type turbine to generate power which can be assembled with material readily available in the market has been claimed to have been invented by Lainingthou Sanamahi Power Corporation- a private firm.
The appliance which can produce five kilowatts of power can be generated by running water of a hill stream was designed by general manager of the corporation Dr Ch Manoranjan.
He claimed that no one had invented such an appliance in the state hithertofore.
Forty-nine year old Manoranjan son of Brajakishore of Pishumthong Ningom Leirak is presently residing at the Langol Housing complex.
He has a doctorate in defence statistic studies and completed a course in armoured field engineering.
He had received many awards in science exhibitions his school life.
According to him, he always intended to invent new things from his early life.
But he could not get much time, he told reporters.
He claimed that the appliance which can be easily handled by a layman has been installed at Senam village in Senapati district, 3o km away from Imphal on NH-53.The same is successfully generating power and supplying it to the village homesteads.
He is currently working for producing a more powerful appliance with the same technology which will be able to produce 60 kilowatts of power.
Works for installing the same is under progress at Liyai village in Senapati district.
He is expecting to supply power to 700 homesteads in the village.
His corporation has also found out 18 places in Ukhrul, Churachandpur and Tamenglong where the wheel turbine invented by him can be installed.
But for the time being it is beyond his affordable limit, and there is no plan to install the same in the near future, he disclosed.
He expressed hope that with some assistance from the state government in terms of funds, he will be able to install his appliances in remote villages where there is no power supply.
