A ten days training camp on spot climbing which was jointly organized by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) concluded today here at MMTA complex.
The camp was held under the aegis of North Eastern Council Shillong, Govt.of India and sponsored by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi.
In the closing function of the camp, Major General DS Hooda, GOC 57 Mountain Division, Dr L Surjit, President, MMTA and Colonel (retired) Achou, Director of National Adventure Foundation Manipur Chapter attended as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Major General Hooda said that training the young boys and girls of the region in the field of adventure by the MMTA will help them in shaping discipline and behaviour to make them a perfect citizens of the country.
Parents should encourage their wards to participate in such adventure sport.
It is the most appropriate time to organize such training in north-east, he observed.
President of MMTA, Dr L Surjit observed that spot climbing is one of the most suited sport deciplines for the youths of the northeast.
He reminded that spot climbing will be included in the Olympic Games from 2020 and asked young climbers to work hard with heart and soul to be the best climber with the hope of becoming an Olympian.
The chief instructor of the training camp, Y Surchand said that altogether 40 young climbers, 37 boys and 3 girls, participated in the camp.
Out of them 3 boys are from Arunachal Pradesh, he added.
T Inaoba was judged as the best climber of the camp, Nandakumar second best climber while the third position was shared by Wangransem and Sanjit.
