Laishram Monika Devi, the international weightlifter from the state of Manipur is all set to take up legal action against the Press Trust of India (PTI), a leading news agency of India, over its report that the international athlete tested positive in her latest B sample dope test.
Informing this during a press conference at the Manipur Press Club here today, L Mamta, sister of Monika termed the news published by the PTI as false allegation against the athlete and a wrong information to the public.
She further informed that the athlete was currently in Delhi fighting the case in the Delhi High Court and that there was no any letter reports from the concern of her being positive.
Terming the reports of the PTI as unfortunate, L Mamta also informed that the advocates of the Monika will take up a legal against the news agency.
Such reports only bring bad name to the athletes, the sister of the International star added.
It may be mentioned here that L Monika was stopped from participating at the Beijing Olympics 2008 at the eleventh hour for reportedly having tested positive in a dope test.
Reports also had it that of the four tests done on her, only one was reported to have been positive but with no proper documents.
The incident became a burning issue in the state of Manipur with the people of the state raising one voice in support of Monika.
