Imphal, February 24, 2010:
The medical department in some parts of Manipur on Wednesday joined the ongoing cease work strike of Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Unions Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees' Organization (AMGEO) thereby causing inconveniences to the patients.
The Out Patient Department (OPD) of Jawaharlal Nehru (JN) Hospital , Imphal East district and the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in district like Churanchandpur left the patients with no options.
Most of the patients who had visited for treatment on Wednesday in Jawaharlal Nehru (JN) Hospital in Imphal and PHCs in some of the hill districts were disheartened when they had to return without any treatment.
Some of the patients held government responsible for such inconveniences.
Talking to Minlien Vaiphei of NNN, one Tampha (50) who had visited the JN Hospital for the treatment of her daughter expressed resentment on the closure of the OPD and asked why the government as well as the government employees are making the common public as their tools.
One elderly patient who had come for treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital charged the government authorities of being selfish and added that they only think of themselves and not for the welfare of the state.
Meanwhile, the police, Imphal East district unlocked the shutter of the OPD of JN Hospital Wednesday morning.
However, all the employees ceased to work and none of the patients were issued OPD tickets.
It may be recalled that the Joint Administration Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Unions Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees' Organization (AMGEO) has been resorting to indefinite cease work strike since January 15 demanding the government to fulfill the 14 charters of demand that included the implementation of 6th Pay Commission and payment of the arrears.
Several departments like Director of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), forest department, FCS department, financial works have been joining the cease work strike launched by the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO.
