Imphal, August 20 2014:
Lok Sabha member from Manipur Thangso Baite Wednesday assured he would try his best to get Inner Line Permit system (ILPS) implemented in Manipur.
Talking to a section of media at his official quarter here, the Congress MP also promised to focus on the work for complete repeal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act from Manipur.
"ILP movement in Manipur by the public including the student community has intensified and hence this law will have to be imposed in the state so that stability can be restored," Baite said.
He said, "I've raised the ILP issue in the Parliament because normal life has remained disrupted in the state for weeks due to the public uproar over it" .
Baite said the five hill districts of the state are dominated by tribal people and they constitute 90 percent of Manipur's territory, so there would be no problem to implement ILP here.
"We need to safeguard the indigenous people and either ILP or an alternative law can only do this protection," he said.
The Lok Sabha MP demanded the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre to fulfill its poll promises and said, "We're now in wait and see mode" .
