Save Irom Sharmila Campaign Rally to reach Imphal today

Imphal, October 26 2011:
The Save Sharmila Campaign Rally, which had been flagged off from Srinagar on October 16, would be reaching here at around 11 am tomorrow.
The campaign rally is being undertaken from Srinagar to Imphal to show solidarity with Irom Chanu Sharmila, who has been fasting for more than 10 years now, demanding repeal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 which give sweeping power to security personnel.
On their arrival at Imphal tomorrow, the Save Sharmila Campaign Rally team, comprising representatives of various civil organizations from 12 states of India, would be accorded warm welcome by the people at North AOC.
From there, the rally would snake through Minuthong, New Checkon, Porompat Crossing and Ayangpalli Road and culminate at Kongpal, the birth place of Sharmila.
At Kongpal, Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) would organise a public meeting.
After the public meeting, a press briefing would also be conducted.
Before leaving Imphal on the following day, the Campaigners would also meet Sharmila in the security ward of JN Hospital, Porompat.
The organizing committee of the campaign has expressed optimism that the Chief Minister of Manipur would be giving permission for meeting Sharmila.
In case the permission is not granted, the team members would observe a day-long fast on the day of Ningol Chakkouba festival, the Organizing Committee has announced.
It may be noted here that after passing through various states and cities, the rally which was flagged off from Srinagar on October 16, reached Guwahati this morning.
At Guwahati, the team was received warmly by the people at the conference hall of Assam Sahitya Sava.
The reception function was followed by a press meet, after which the rally team left Guwahati for Imphal at around 3 pm today.
