Imphal, August 19 2010: The origin of Meira Paibi has been written wrongly in the text book of social science being taught to the students of Standard-X, All Manipur Women Social Reformation and Development Samaj alleged.

Talking to reporters at its office today, secretary of the Samaj, Th Ramani said that the wrong in the born of Meira Paibis was found in the text book published by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur.

She pointed out that in the chapter "Ganatandra Chatnabada Meira Paibi Singi Thoudang at page 153 of the political section of the text book, certain materials which would wrongly interpret the Maira Paibi is found.

The wrong insertion will be tantamount in treating wrongly the Maira Paibis movement in the wrong sense to the future generation, she pointed out stating in the chapter it has been written as the Maira Paibi was founded on May 18, 1980 .

It is not true, lamented Ramani adding that actually the coming up Meira Paibi movement was related with a huge protest rally of the womenfolk at Patsoi area of Imphal West district during April 1980.The day marked the surfaced of Meira Paibi movement in the state.

Before the rally was organised, womenfolk of the state used to move round the streets with torch in their hand in their respective to check drunkard men disturbing peace and tranquility of the locality.

They were popularly known as nisha bandh.

The contents in the chapter have wrongly written the origin of the movement.

Before publishing such a historic event, writers and authority concerns need a thorough research work, she observed demanding rectification of the contents at the earliest.
