The Ideal Blind School today celebrated its 37th foundation with a fanfare at the school campus at Takeyel in Imphal West District.
The celebration was marked by various cultural programmes presented by the students of the school.
On the occasion, Director of Social Welfare, G Seityabati announced that her department is considering to hike the rate of monthly stipends given to the students from the existing Rs 500 to Rs 750.The same will be translated into work at the earliest.
Government will also take up works for improvement of the infrastructure and provisions of other facilities to sort out problems faced by the students and employees of the only government run blind school in the state, she added.
She also encouraged the students of the school saying that blind persons can also perform anything what normal persons could do in this modern world.
The Social Welfare department in consultation with the teachers and other staff of the school are trying their best to provide all facilities within the capacity of the department.
Minister for Social Welfare, Agriculture and Minor Irrigation, N Loken, Commissioner of Social Welfare, Letkhosei and Director of the department, G Seityabati graced the celebration as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The founder of the school, Shonlien Kiloung attended as special guest.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, minister, N Loken said that the government run blind school is among the best of its kind in the north eastern region.
While stating that government is giving emphasis to this school for blind persons, he also urged upon the teachers to work hard to make the students worthy pillars of the future nation.
