The banned Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) and its army wing People's Liberation Army (PLA) will observe the Martyrs' Day on April 13 as usual and appealed to the people to join offering flowers to the departed souls of the martyrs who had laid down their lives for the motherland, according to a press release issued today by Secretary Publicity, RPF, T Leishemba.
Leishemba appealed to the clubs, organisations, Meira Paibees, students and every individual of Manipur to take part in observing the Day by offering flowers to those martyrs who had laid down their lives in the fight for liberation of the motherland.
Leishemba also appealed to the people to light lamps at the gate of every house in the evening as the sun sets in memory of the departed souls so that they would rest in peace.
The RPF/PLA also appealed to the people not to organise any kind of entertaintment programme on April 13 .
The press release further stated that the RPF has been fighting a war to liberate Manipur and its people from the colonial rule for the past 30 years.
Many courageous men and women had sacrificed their lives in this war of liberation.
Offering of flowers at their memorial sites had been organised annually, it stated.
The Day is being observed in remembrance of the battle of Kodompokpi which remains as a bright star in the history of Manipur, the press release stated adding that it was a battle against the colonial rule where a brave leader along with some of his comrades had fought against the enemies till his last breath without bowing his head to the enemies.
