Imphal, December 10 2011:
The BJP is in no way against the Muslim Community, it is a political party which stands for the welfare of all communities having faith in secularism, asserted Dr Najma Heptullah, Vice President, BJP.
Addressing media persons today, Dr Heptullah said that she had been with the Congress right from the time of her forefathers.
But since the Congress works only in the interest of certain sections of the people, forgetting about the welfare of the whole society, she joined the BJP and is trying to bring about a change in the society.
Even after 63 years since India attained independence, the Congress has never made any conscious attempt to develop the roads of the country in general and the North East States in particular.
But during the time of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a number of policies and programmes were chalked out for the welfare of the people of the North East States, she said.
She further stated that a handful of people are out to destroy the image of BJP by terming it as a communal party, which is very unfortunate.
The party is never against any particular community.
She also requested the Muslim brethrens of Manipur to understand that BJP is not against the Muslims in any way whatsoever.
Her Imphal visit was also primarily aimed at meeting the Muslim brethrens of the state.
But she will also meet other communities and discuss their problems.
The Muslim brethrens should now opt out of the Congress and set foot in the courtyard of other political parties as well.
The Congress views the North East States as apart from the Indian mainstream.
The people should realize that BJP does not regard the NE states as anything different from the Indian mainstream, she added.
She also informed that Indira Oinam who is going to contest in the coming election against Chief Minister O Ibobi, came to the party along with 1500 supporters.
She is a very courageous person.
She has all the qualities to beat the CM in the coming election, Dr Heptullah exuded confidence.
BJP, National General Secretary, Tapir Gao, BJP Manipur Pradesh, President Sh Shantikumar Sharma and President, Minority Cell, MS Rehmad Tula were also present at the press conference held at BJP, head office, Nityaipat Chuthek.
