Health Minister Ph Parijat has inaugurated a Radio Diagnosis Department including a Japanese-made CT Scan machine, an OPD block and a new Ward at JN Hospital here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Ph Parijat said the infrastructure improvement of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS) has been done on war footing within a given period.
He said, it has been done keeping in mind the need to have a medical college of the state.
He said a high-quality hospital is needed in order to set up a medical college.
As such, the government has been trying to improve the JN Hospital.
A Japanese made CT Scan machine, purchased for Rs 5 crore, is installed in the newly opened Radio Diagnosis department.
This machine is the first of its kind in the entire North eastern states.
The newly inaugurated ward will have 300 beds.
Parijat added that the frequent referral of patients to other hospitals by state run hospitals has reduced the credibility of the hospitals.
He therefore urged the authorities to try their best not to refer patients by cautiously implementing the equipments.
The Health Minister said, JN Hospital may be under the JNIMS administration.
In that case, the government is planning to set up district hospital each in Imphal East and Imphal West.
Parijat further said most of the faculty members for JNIMS are filled.
A few vacant posts of Associate professor should be filled within a short while.
He is positive that the session of the medical institution would begin from next year.
The inauguration function was graced by the health minister as the chief guest.
Works Minister K Ranjit and PDA Chairman, Dr Kh Loken graced the function as the president and the guest of honour respectively.
The presidium members included Director of JNIMS, A Dwijamani and Medical Superintendent of JN Hospital, Dr N Rajendra.
Speaking on the occasion, Works Minister K Ranjit said 90% of the construction works of JNIMS has been completed.
He said, only a reception hall for JNIMS is due now adding that the department concerned is planning to complete the construction at the earliest time.
