Ukhrul, February 19 2009: The four days Public Information Campaign on Bharat Nirman and flagship programmes of the Central government began today at Ukhrul Town Hall with the SDO, Ukhrul Shri Sudhan R, IAS, as Chief Guest of the function, Shri A Hongva, ZEO, Ukhrul as Guest of Honour and Dr Selim Keishing, Project Technical Officer, Ukhrul District Community Resource Management Society as President of the Function.

On the inaugural day progress of the programme on ICDS, Immunisation and NREGS at Ukhrul District was dealt upon by the concerned department officers.

Smt Shingreipam, supervisor, ICDS, Ukhrul spoke in length about the progress of ICDS programme taken up in the district.

There are five hundred twenty nine Angan wadi Centres in the district.

She appealed to the people to contact the concerned CDPO in case of any dissatisfaction in the implementation of Angan wadi programme in the district.

District Immunisation Officer, Dr.Wilson said that within the last two years whooping caugh, which was once considered as the major ailment of the villagers, has been greatly reduced due to the constant immunization programme taken up by the department.

He also said that the false belief by the villagers that immunization is part of family planning needs to be corrected through awareness programme.

Project Officer of NREGS/DRDA Ukhrul Smt Ningshimi while highlighting about the progress of NREGS in the district appealed to the people to clarify their misunderstanding on NREGS with the concerned Headman who is the authority in the village and not directly to the Deputy Commissioner.

The Project Officer also said that sixty five days works has been implemented in every villages of the district.

The audience taking keen enthusiasm on the programme raised different questions to the resource persons during interaction session to clarify their doubts.

The Chief Guest of the function lauded Press Information Bureau and its partners in the campaign for taking up such a bold step of taking up the campaign to educate the people on the various programme taken up by the Central government for the welfare and development of the people.

The Guest of Honour also said that it is only through education that people get aware on the various programme implemented by the government.

The President of the function while delivering his presidential speech categorically said that in Ukhrul District most of the government schemes unfortunately does not reach the grass root people but confine only to the office goers , MLAs and Headmen.

He also appealed for more public information campaign so as to reach to the villagers.

The inaugural function was also showcased by the various stalls of different government departments like DAVP, NYK Ukhrul, NRHM Ukhrul, DIO Ukhrul, DFP Ukhrul & Churachandpur and Community Food & Nutrition Extension Unit Imphal.

To lighten the spirit of the five hundred odd participants, including students, thang-ta and magic show was also performed by song & drama division Imphal at the end of the inaugural function.
